The following tips can help you prepare for your next home inspection. 1. Add downspout extensions of 4 inch flexible tubing 5 feet from the house to control basement seepage and maintain positive grading. 2. Check flashing around chimney, vent pipes and eves for leaks and caulk with roofing cement. 3. Clean all gutters and check alignment. Replace rusted out sections. 4. Power wash exterior siding and decks. 5. Clean masonry stoops and walks and paint handrails with rustoleum, check handrails. 6. Remove excss furniture and clutter. Deodorize the house, clean carpets. 7. Caulk windows and door thresholds with a silicone/latex caulk. 8. Freshly paint the front door, windows, trim and shutter curb appeal. 9. Put down fresh pine straw and add flowersto brighten up the front yard. 10. Repair floor squeaks by screwing the sub floor othe joist. 11. Professionally service the funace and air conditioning and get a written report; Check for gas leaks, heat exchanger problems. 12. Repair leaky faucets, loose toilets, plumbing leaks and re-caulk the bathtubs with a silicone tub and tile caulk. 13. Clean ashes from the fireplace and check the firebrick for cracks and the condition of the flue and damper. Call chimney sweep if there is more that 1/8 inch of creosote.
